Prayer is usually said to be a ' communication between a person or a group of persons and God'. But it might interest you to know that the meaning of prayer can be derived from the scriptures.  When I newly gave my life to Christ and was asked to give a talk on 'Praying Without Ceasing' during a Bible study programme, I embarked on a deep personal bible study and personally discovered a comprehensive definition of prayer. The Spirit of God opened my eyes and I discovered that the definition of prayer was hidden in some verses of the scriptures and also in our 'Lords prayer' as written in Matt 6: 9-13 . However, they needed to be put together to make a comprehensive definition. A TRUE LIFE STORY EXPERIENCED BY BRO. ALIGWEKWE NNAMDI In a paticular church where i used to worship, there were three retired old men who always recieve special treatment, with particular reference to their sitting position in the church. Indeed they deserve such treatment because they are indeed very old, but at least can walk with their walking sticks. Their sitting positions were always arranged a day before sunday mass. Their looks shows that they may have been influencial poeple before their curent age. Just a guess anyways. It is obvious that these three old men must have seen or heard about the death of their age mates, as the clock ticks. One of the days the church mass was about to start, i was led to take a closer look at them and tried to put my self in their shoes, you know, like trying to be empathetic about their age. There are quite a number of versions of the bible with different choice of words in relation to what the scripture is saying in  1 Thessalonians 5:19. Let us take a look at how other versions of the scriptures interpreted 1 Thessalonians 5:19. - King James Version, American Standard Version and Darby English Version share the same interpretation saying " Quench not the Spirit" . - Amplified Version added by saying " Do not supress or subdue the Holy Spirit ". - Contemporary English Version says " Don't turn away God's Spirit ". - International Standard Version and NIV says "Do not put out the Spirit's fire" . - Good News Version says " Do not restrain the Holy Spirit" . Beloved remember, before you became born again, you were living in sin. People sacrificed their time preaching to you in fellowships, streets, work place, pubilc vehicles etc. Born again friends of yours spoke to you severally about Jesus, but you snubbed them and didn't listen to them.
