IS SOCIAL MEDIA GOOD OR BAD?
The truth is that social media is not human and has no capacity on its own to cause problems in the society. Social media is a THING and not HUMAN. Social media is an innocent platform and has done nothing wrong. It is simply a platform created by humans for networking for the good reasons.
Social media is a virgin platform created and controlled by humans who determine what it projects to the world. Is like a virgin land waiting for a man or woman to cultivate on it. What we garbage in, is what we will garbage out. If you post evil on social media it will project evil, likewise if you post good, it will project good.
However, there are 2 major categories of people who use social media. Those who use it for good and those who use it for bad. Therefore, the problem is not the Social Media, the problem is HUMANS and the choice they make. The human factor is responsible for the evil social media has been used to project globally.
Social media is a global tool for networking. There is nothing wrong with it, but rather there is something wrong with a particular category of humans who use it for the wrong reasons.
Interestingly, social media has been used to win millions of souls for God. Evangelists and teachers of the gospel of Jesus have successfully reached out to millions of people, preaching and teaching for the salvation of men using the Social Media. Furthermore, the Social Media has been a very effective platform in the education industry. It has helped in the transmission of learning materials for students who wish to study from in a country from another country (i.e. schooling abroad online from your country).
During the Covid-19 pandemic, social media was used to bridge the gap caused by a global lockdown, as a result of the consequences of coming in contact with people infected with corona virus. With the social media countries were able to solve international, national and local problems during the covid-19 pandemic. Millions of lives where saved via social media.
Social Media has been helpful because good people used it for good. So is about the human factor (i.e. human control) and not the social media as a platform (which is a platform that cannot control itself).
However, to back-up these facts above with an analogy, a late black American music icon Tupac once said, "Guns don't kill people, is people that kill people". This simply means, 'no one dies until someone pulls the trigger'. Therefore, Social Media has been used to destroy people's lives bcs someone decided to do so with it.
The Bible itself is a book containing written scripts meant for the salvation of men, but fake pastors use it to defruad people. Does that mean the bible is evil? No is not, but rather the human factor at work.
Explosives are meant for mining and bringing down unwanted buildings, but humans choose to use it to destroy one another. The human factor at work
Marriage is a platform established by God for companionship and procreation. But humans have decided to use it to defruad others to enrich themselves. The human factor at work.
Cars were produced to transport people from point A to B, but some have choosen to use it for kidnap operations and other ungodly operations. The human factor at work.
Books are meant to educate people, but humans have decided to used it to transmit ponographic pictures that can destroyed the lives of young men and women.
Money is a financial tool generally accepted globally for the purpose of purchasing goods and services, financing wonderful projects and for other financial needs. But humans have choosen to use money to sponsor crimes and countless evil operations. The human factor at work.
Marketing business has strived via Social Media platforms. Out of job youths have made millions of Naira using the Social Media to market goods and services belonging to companies and getting paid for it. For example, business men and women use social media platforms like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Yahoo to advertise their goods and services, with the aim of reaching out to millions of their customers. Also, government of countries, media houses etc all make use of Social Media as their means of communication or reaching out. Unfortunately, some category of humans have decided to use these social media platforms to defraud people, blackmail and to lunch ponographic videos and pictures.
Based on these facts and analogy, we can justify that Social Media is GOOD and not BAD. The problem remains the HUMAN FACTOR (human control). Human beings controls what it becomes to the society.
